With all eyes on big names like Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, one quarterback coach with a proven track record is pointing in a different direction.
Quincy Avery, who has helped shape the games of NFL stars like Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and CJ Stroud, believes there’s a name most people are missing.
Max Brosmer. That’s who Avery is backing to shock everyone. While most draft boards barely mention the former Minnesota signal-caller, Avery insists teams should be paying close attention. “He’s someone I think is going to be really, really successful for a long time,” Avery said this week.
He didn’t throw that opinion around lightly either- this is the same coach who’s built a career helping top-tier talent thrive at the next level.

Brosmer doesn’t have the flashy projections or the prime-time highlight reel that other top prospects boast. In fact, the NFL’s own evaluation lists him as just “an average backup,” and ESPN left him out of its top 11 quarterbacks. But Avery sees something deeper.
While Avery did acknowledge the toughness and upside of players like Shedeur Sanders, calling him “the toughest quarterback in college football”, he also noted the outside factors that might complicate things, especially when a player comes with the influence of a famous parent like Deion Sanders.
As for Cam Ward, Avery sees him as the only quarterback in this class who can instantly transform a franchise. “All the other guys are going to have to really, really work hard and be diligent in the little things,” he said.
But make no mistake: Max Brosmer is the name Quincy Avery is betting on. And if history is any guide, teams would do well to listen.
